How much do you know about Hedgehogs?

Most people easily recognise a hedgehog. Their back is covered in 25mm spines. Their faces, chest, belly and legs are covered with a grey brown coloured fur. They have on average 5000 to 7000 spines on a fully grown adult hedgehog. An interesting fact is that they have a tail.

Where do they live.

They are found almost anywhere in England but are sparse in the Scottish Isles, wet areas, pine forests, uplands and mountains. This is maybe due to the lack of food and habitat in these areas.

What do they eat?

Hedgehogs eat insects, slugs, snails and even bird eggs. They have poor eyesight and rely on their smell for finding food. When foraging for food they make a pig like grunting noise which is where they get their name "hog".
